Mater. Interfaces, Chem. Eng. J, Chem. Soc.

Biography of Professor:

Wenling Zhang received her Ph.D. degree in 2015 from Inha University, Republic of Korea. Following a postdoctoral period supervised by Prof. Hongbo Zeng, University of Alberta, Canada, she is now working as a professor at School of Mechanical Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology. Dr. Zhang’s research interest focuses on mechanism and application of electro/magnetorheological systems. She proposed an effective strategy to enhance the long-term stability of electro-/magnetorheological fluids through interfacial restructuring between particles and the base liquid. She investigated the influence of topological structures on short-range van der Waals forces (e.g., interfacial capillary forces, surface forces) and long-range electro-/magnetically induced forces. Dr. Zhang demonstrated that static friction along the tangential direction of the contact surface between adjacent particles during dynamic compression significantly contributes to the shear strength of particle chains. She evaluated the effects of orientation forces between inherent dipoles and attractive forces between induced/ inherent dipoles on shear yield stress under electric fields, revealing the origins of shear stress under quasi-static and dynamic conditions. These findings provide new fundamental insights into the microscopic origins of electro-/magnetorheological shear resistance and deliver critical theoretical models for intelligent anti-impact damping devices in defense equipment. Dr. Zhang has led over 10 national projects, including the National Young Talent Program and NSFC grants, she published over 80 SCI papers in journals including Nano Energy, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Chemical Engineering Journal, and Chemical Society Reviews, with over 3,000 citations. She awarded the Chinese Rheology Youth Award (2018) and has selected as the 10th Rheology Committee Member.
