Biography of Professor Rui Xiao:
Rui Xiao is a tenured associate professor at the Department of Engineering Mechanics, Zhejiang University, He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2009 and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 2015. He serves as a committee member of the Chinese Society of Rheology, council member of the Zhejiang Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and chair of its Soft Matter Mechanics Committee. His research focuses on the mechanical behavior and constitutive modeling of amorphous polymers, with over 100 SCI-indexed publications cited more than 3,000 times. His honors include the receipt of NSFC Excellent Young Scientist Fund, Humboldt Research Fellowship, Young Rheologist Award from the Chinese Society of Rheology, and Wang Ren Young Scientist Award in Mechanics. His key contributions to rheology include: (1) developing a non-equilibrium constitutive theory for glassy polymers that accurately predicts their rheological responses under various conditions; (2) proposing an advanced shear transformation zone theory framework that overcomes the limitations of classical models in describing amorphous materials' complex rheological behavior; and (3) establishing a transient network model for dynamic polymer systems that successfully captures rate-dependent rheological effects. He has been the principal investigator of five NSFC projects and a major grant from Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation.
